Thought I'd jump start this area with something that just came up on another site. This is a good alternative to having to use multiple chucks. I happen to have bought one at Woodcraft a while back.

Here's how it is used.
I have been thinking of getting a spindle tap and this video has kinda convinced me.

So you think they are worth having or is this another fancy fly to catch the angler?

This is one place that you could buy it if you wanted.

At around $20 it might be worth a try. The only thing that I wonder about is what happens with a catch? With a chuck, it may shift in the chuck. You can usually loosen the chuck and reposition and resecure it. I suspect that this may actually hold to a higher force. Of course once it fails the glue block is useless.

True but a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a bunch of faceplates. If you use a harder wood I think you will have good success with these.
