Thought I'd jump start this area with something that just came up on another site. This is a good alternative to having to use multiple chucks. I happen to have bought one at Woodcraft a while back.

At around $20 it might be worth a try. The only thing that I wonder about is what happens with a catch? With a chuck, it may shift in the chuck. You can usually loosen the chuck and reposition and resecure it. I suspect that this may actually hold to a higher force. Of course once it fails the glue block is useless.

True but a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a bunch of faceplates. If you use a harder wood I think you will have good success with these.
